Peritoneal Perfusion

Some tumors of bowel (colon) appendix and ovaries have propensity to deposit and grow on the bowel walls or lining of the abdominal cavity and abdominal organs (peritoneum).

Hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion is a method of chemotherapy in which warm I.V. solution containing a high dose chemotherapy is continuously circulation throughout the abdominal cavity for 90 minutes. At the end of chemotherapy session the solution containing chemotherapy is removed from the abdominal cavity prior to the completion of the operation. This procedure is done in conjunction with removal of all visible malignant tumors from the abdominal cavity.

Ask your physician if your tumor will require this type of treatment.
