The faculty provide inpatient consultative service at University of Toledo Medical Center and also consult at several other area hospitals, as well as a nearby subacute nursing facility. An inpatient service staffed by an attending Neurologist admits patients with acute neurological conditions to the regular floor as well as to the intensive care unit where the neurology team works in conjunction with neurosurgeons and intensivists. There is a stroke team on call to evaluate patients with acute stroke for thrombolytic therapy and investigative drugs. Neurologists with training in cerebrovascular ultrasound perform and interpret carotid duplex and transcranial doppler studies. The Headache Treatment and Research Center involves fellowship-trained headache specialists. The Department of Neurology administrates the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the services of which include an outpatient epilepsy clinic for children and adults, a certified EEG lab, an epilepsy monitoring unit and evaluation for epilepsy surgery.
