| As a Level 1 Trauma Center, The University of Toledo Medical Center Emergency Services Department offers emergency health services and trauma services twenty four hours a day to patients of all ages. The Emergency Services Department consists of Emergency Trauma Services and a Critical Care Air and Ground Transport Network.
The University of Toledo Medical Center Emergency Services Department is responsible for the immediate treatment of any medical or surgical emergency, for initiating life saving procedures in all types of emergency situations, and for providing emergency care for other conditions, including chronic medical problems and minor injuries and illnesses.
The Critical Care Air Transport Network consists of four LifeFlight helicopters and ten mobile intensive care units (MICU's). Two of the helicopters are located here in Toledo, Ohio and are staffed with a registered nurse and physician for all patient runs and serves Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The third helicopter is a collaborative effort with St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, OH and is staffed with registered nurses and paramedics. The ground transport component consists of ten MICU's which are staffed by nurses and paramedics. Eight of the MICU's are located in the surrounding region, and two units are based in Toledo. All of the helicopters and MICU's are equipped and staffed to care for both adult and pediatric patients.
