Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency

The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) is proud to offer an accredited Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency for licensed physical therapists.  This residency will offer integrated learning experiences between UTMC, The University of Toledo’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, and The Rehabilitation Hospital of Northwest Ohio.  This program brings together the strengths of all institutions to offer high-quality learning opportunities, and is designed to advance the clinical and scientific knowledge, clinical skills and teaching effectiveness of physical therapists with a specialized interest in neurologic care.

Our mission is to prepare residents in the advanced clinical practice of neurologic physical therapy as a clinical specialist committed to improving the human condition through advanced clinical practice.  Graduates demonstrate advanced knowledge in neurologic concepts through the integration of evidence-based practice and advanced clinical skills.  The program seeks to develop clinicians who will contribute to the physical therapy profession and to the health-care system through specialized practice, professionalism, lifelong learning, teaching and service.

UTMC Neurological PT Residency was granted candidacy status in 2019. Our first resident successfully completed the program in August 16, 2019 and plans to sit for specialty examination Spring 2020.

Application and Interview

For the 2019 - 2020 application cycle, applications should be submitted through RFPTCAS. Interviews will be a part of the application process. The deadline to apply is June 3, 2019.  The resident's start date will be September 9, 2019. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited physical therapy program with a valid Ohio license prior to the start date of the residency. The selected resident is a 12-month contracted employee of UTMC and will earn a $45,000 salary for providing patient care 30 hours/week. UTMC provides additional benefits consistent with those offered to employees.
