The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) is proud to offer a Sports Physical Therapy Residency for licensed physical therapists. This residency will offer integrated learning experiences between UT Athletics, UTMC, and The University of Toledo’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. This program brings together the strengths of all institutions to offer high-quality learning opportunities, and is designed to advance the clinical and scientific knowledge, clinical skills and teaching effectiveness of physical therapists with a specialized interest in care of the injured athlete.

Our mission is to prepare residents in the advanced clinical practice of sports physical therapy as a clinical specialist committed to improving the human condition through advanced clinical practice. Graduates demonstrate advanced knowledge in sports concepts through the integration of evidence-based practice and advanced clinical skills. The program seeks to develop clinicians who will contribute to the physical therapy profession and to the health-care system through specialized practice, professionalism, lifelong learning, teaching and service.

Didactic Experience

Didactic education will be guided by the online SCS prep course created in Medbridge with supplemental content from resident faculty instructors. Guided application will also be included with each of the mentoring faculty.  Throughout the curriculum, the resident will continue to develop learning in content areas via teaching and lab instruction within the UT DPT Program. There are 12 modules that cover all diagnostic categories to be completed during the 12 month residency.
