Heart and Vascular Center

From high blood pressure to congestive heart failure, irregular heartbeats to valve problems, our team of cardiovascular experts at The University of Toledo Medical Center have the knowledge and experience needed to diagnose and treat all forms of heart disease. 

UTMC’s Department of Cardiovascular Services offers a full range of testing, diagnostic and treatment services for adult patients at our state-of-the-art Heart and Vascular Center. Our specialists excel in treating a wide spectrum of heart conditions including:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib)
  • Irregular heartbeat (Arrhythmia)
  • Hardening of the arteries (Atherosclerosis)

Comprehensive Testing and Treatment

Our cardiac department includes specialists in structural heart disease, electrophysiology and cardiac intervention. We offer a wide range of cardiac testing and imaging services, including ultrasound, x-ray, nuclear imaging, echocardiography and electrocardiography.

Our heart specialists are skilled in non-surgical treatments such as angioplasty, stenting and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR ) for patients with severe aortic stenosis. Patients have access to the latest therapies at UTMC, including the WATCHMAN implant for patients with AFib and the Optimizer implant, the first and only FDA-approved device in the United States for the delivery of CCM therapy for patients with heart failure.

Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation Program offering medical consultation and state-of-the-art therapies, informed by the expertise of an electrophysiologist, cardiothoracic surgeon, structural heart disease specialist, pharmacist, social worker and nurse coordinator.  

Advanced Heart Failure Clinic offering personalized care and access to the latest treatments available. Our program brings together experts specializing in cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac intervention and cardiac imaging to offer you the comprehensive care needed to best manage your health.  

Syncope and Autonomic Disorders Clinic that is world-renowned for its treatment of patients experiencing syncope — abrupt, brief loss of consciousness — and disorders of the autonomic nervous system such as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).  

Anticoagulation Clinic providing medication management for cardiac patients taking blood thinners.

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Clinic offering an innovative, multi-disciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of PH. The PH Clinic combines the disciplines of cardiology, rheumatology and pulmonology to provide the most current, in-depth, and comprehensive evaluation and treatment available for PH.

Cardiac Amyloidosis and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic offering non-invasive diagnostic testing and treatment for patient suffering these diseases.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatments

If surgical intervention is needed, your cardiologist will work closely with our expert team of cardiothoracic surgeons to coordinate care before and after your procedure.

Our heart surgeons specialize in treating a variety of cardiac conditions, including AFib and heart valve problems. UTMC is proud to be a regional leader in the field of minimally invasive, robotic heart surgery for both routine and complex procedures including:
