Meet Our New Physician

Shuab Omer, M.D. Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery Division, Cardiothoracic Surgery Shuab Omer, M.D., was recently appointed an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, at the University of Toledo (UT) College of Medicine.  He earned his medical degree at Government Medical College Srinagar, University of Kashmir, India.  Dr. Omer completed his general surgery residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center, serving as chief resident from 2006-2007.  In June 2010, he finished his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.  During his training at the Texas Heart Institute, he was also exposed to complex thoracic surgical oncology at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as a part of his cardiothoracic training.  He is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in cardiothoracic surgery.  

The University of Toledo Medical Center/the Department of Surgery are pleased Dr. Omer has returned to practice at our University hospital.   He performs many surgeries, including:  CABG on and off pump; aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve surgeries,  thoracic aortic aneurysm; arch and root aneurysm; thoracoabdominal aneurysm; atrial fibrillation; atrial septal defects; surgery for heart failure including placement of LVADs (Left Ventricular Assist Devices) pulmonary resections including lobectomies, sleeve resections and pneumonectomies; surgical treatment of myasthenia gravis; airway (tracheal) surgery; and esophagectomies: both open and minimally invasive.  His research interests are heart failure and cardiac surgery in the geriatric population.  

Dr. Omer and his wife, Sumia, have three children.
