Dr. Claudiu Georgescu
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Division of Infectious Diseases
Dr. Claudiu Georgescu was recently appointed assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania; and completed his medicine residency and fellowship in infectious diseases at State University of New York (SUNY), Brooklyn. Dr. Georgescu is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in infectious diseases.
During his residency and fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, he was a clinical assistant instructor for five years. Prior to moving to the US, he functioned as a general practitioner in Bucharest for three years.
Dr. Georgescu joins Dr's. Julie Westerink, Chief, and Joan Duggan in the Division of Infectious Diseases. His special clinic interests are in hospital acquired infections with multidrug resistant bacteria and management of HIV/AIDS; his primary research interest is in antibiotic stewardship.
Dr. Georgescu sees HIV infected patients and general ID consult patients in the Ruppert Health Center and patients with prosthetic joint infections at the new Orthopaedic Center on the UT Health Science Campus.
