Meet Our New Physician

Hongyan Li, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Department of Neurology
Specialty: Epilepsy and Neuro-Otology

Dr. Hongyan Li was recently appointed assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Toledo (UT) College of Medicine.  He earned his medical degree at Qingdao Medical College in P.R. China, and completed his residency training in neurology and PhD in Neuroscience at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.  He completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is also trained in Neuro-Otology and is among a small group of neurologists who have a clinical interest in dizziness and balance disorders. Dr. Li is board certified in neurology and clinic neurophysiology.

Before returning to Toledo, Dr. Li practiced for six years at Albert Einstein Medical Center and Moss Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. During that time period, he served as director of the EEG/EP laboratory and also headed both the epilepsy and vestibular programs.

Dr. Li has authored over 30 journal articles and abstracts. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and American Epilepsy Society.  He has served as an academic clinician throughout his entire career.  

Dr. Li‘s clinical interests include epilepsy, neuro-otology and clinical neurophysiology. His research interests are vestibular compensation, neuronal plasticity, seizure semeiology, and epileptic seizures related to traumatic brain injury.
