U.S. News names UTMC as area’s best hospital

U.S. News and World Report recognized The University of Toledo Medical Center as the best hospital in the Toledo metro area for 2011-12.The magazine ranked UTMC as a high-performer in seven clinical specialties, the most of any institution in the area.“It is clear that U.S. News understands what the Toledo community already knows: The University of Toledo Medical Center offers patients superior care, a great experience and a higher degree of healing,” said Dr. Scott Scarborough, senior vice president and executive director of UTMC.“Caring for patients is a team effort, and this is an accomplishment that the entire team should be proud of,” Scarborough said.U.S. News listed UTMC has a high-performer in:

• Ear, Nose and Throat;
• Geriatrics;
• Kidney Disorders;
• Neurology and Neurosurgery;
• Orthopaedics;
• Pulmonology; and
•Urology.

It is the blend of educational programs, innovative research and patient-centered clinical care that sets the stage for this recognition,” said Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, chancellor, executive vice president for biosciences and health affairs, and dean of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. “This is one more example of the incredible momentum that our UT team has created. UTMC - A Level one Trauma Center

Being a Level I Trauma Center means UTMC is equipped to handle the most serious type of injury at any time. To receive Level I verification, UT must undergo a rigorous evaluation and meet precise criteria defined by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. This is the highest level of trauma services available in any medical center. The University of Toledo Medical Center has a full spectrum of medical specialists ready to serve any level of illness or injury. At UTMC, innovation is used to save lives in critical emergencies through breakthroughs in treatments by our emergency medical and trauma teams.

 

UTMC Receives Stroke Recognition

The University of Toledo Medical Center congratulates Dr. Gretchen Tietjen, professor and chair of neurology, and director of the Stroke Program and Headache Center, for her involvement in our hospital achieving the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Stroke Gold Plus Performance Award!”
The UT Medical Center is impacting the lives of many by using the AHA’s premier hospital-based quality improvement program, Get With The Guidelines for the treatment of stroke patients. To qualify for the award, a hospital must adhere to all the specified standards at least 85 percent of the time for at least two consecutive years. The standards are those that have been proven to improve health after stroke.
