General Shadow Program
As a learning institution, The University of Toledo understands the importance of exploring career opportunities through observation. If you are interested in shadowing one of our many hospital professions, we encourage you to seek out a mentorship with one of them. Should you be granted the opportunity to shadow, you can then contact Volunteer Services to establish yourself as a shadow participant.
Follow these steps to get started in the UTMC shadow program:
1. Contact volunteer services to schedule a two-hour volunteer orientation session. Sessions are typically held the first Wednesday of every month from 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm. When you call, the location of the session will be given at that time.
2. Be prepared to submit the following completed items at your scheduled orientation session:
- Volunteer Enrollment Form (If participant is under 18, please have the parent signature section completed)
- Official record of a cleared 2-step PPD test within the past 12 months (General Shadow Participants are not eligible for free 2-step PPD tests through UTMC) .
3. After orientation, volunteer services will begin processing all forms and submitting requests for background checks for shadow participants age 18 and over, along with seeking an appropriate mentor if available.
4. Once all requirements have been met (completed volunteer orientation, cleared 2-step PPD test, cleared background check) and a mentor has been established, volunteer services can issue a temporary shadow badge for the time allowed.
