Since 1985, the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program at the Medical University of Ohio, and its affiliated hospitals, has offered the medical resident a three-year, post-graduate training program that provides a solid foundation in rehabilitation medicine and physical medicine.
The primary purpose of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency program is to prepare each resident for a future as a private practitioner, a hospital-based physiatrist, or an academic rehabilitation specialist. Residents receive both clinical and didactic experiences, as well as have the opportunity to work side by side with professional psysiatrists throughout the Toledo area.
Residents are instructed in a broad range of specialties, including physiatry, neurology, psychology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, rehabilitation engineering, prosthetics/orthotics, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, vocational counseling, rheumatology, cardiology, and orthopedics. The education is strengthened by a high faculty-to-resident ratio, and hands-on experience.
A candidate for residency at MUO must be a graduate of a medical school accredited by the ACGME as well as successful completion of a transitional year by the start of the PGY II year.
