The Department of Urology at The University of Toledo prides itself on being early adopters of various surgical technologies proven to benefit our patients. We were the first in the area to utilize laser technology and have continued to integrate the latest technology into our modern practice.
Surgical treatment of urologic disease used to involve large open incisions. With the advent of laparoscopy and in turn, robotics, it is now possible to replicate many open procedures through small incisions. As a result, patients experience less pain, blood loss and scarring. The University of Toledo’s Department of Urology has fellowship-trained specialists who treat both benign and malignant disease utilizing the da Vinci robotic system. See our specialists in action:
Of the many advancements in medical technology, the emergence of lasers in the treatment of urologic disease has had one of the biggest impacts on patient care. As the first hospital to bring a laser to Toledo, we continue to pioneer the integration of laser technology into patient care. We treat both benign and malignant diseases of the urinary tract with lasers, which includes:
- Enlarged prostate
- Kidney Stones
- Bladder cancer
- Ureteral Stricture disease
- Bladder Neck contractures
