Geriatric Psychiatry
Aging sometimes presents challenges that older adults find difficult to overcome. The loss of lifetime companions, decreased physical and mental capabilities, and loss of independence can be overwhelming.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Center at The University of Toledo Medical Center is available to provide the needed care and treatment. With effective therapy, medications, and coping skills, independence can be maintained or improved, to provide a more satisfying lifestyle.
Inpatient
The inpatient unit includes elder-friendly patient rooms, a common dining area, conference and therapy rooms designed to meet the safety, physical and mental health needs of older patients.
The multidisciplinary team provides numerous therapeutic activities including:
- Group and individual therapy
- Patient family support therapy
- Recreational and social activities
- Occupational therapy
- Medication management
- Continued care planning
- Rehabilitation services
- Family counseling
- Daily living skills
- 24 hour nursing services
Outpatient
The outpatient clinic is part of the Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and offers the older adult diagnostic assessment and treatment for a broad range of psychiatric disorders including, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders
