What symptoms do I need to look for in deciding whether my loved one needs psychiatric help?
Any prolonged change in behavior or personality might indicate the presence of psychiatric illness. Some symptoms to look for would be:
-Disorientation
-Depression
-Severe memory loss
-Hallucinations
-Increased social withdrawal
-Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
-Sleep disturbances
-Extreme fluctuations in weight
-Loss of interest in appearance
-Agitation
-Poor concentration
-Prolonged grieving
My loved one is admitted to the hospital and problems are identified, what happens next?
Discharge planning is carefully coordinated with the patient's family and primary care physician. Staff works closely with the family members or residential facilities to help them arrange for appropriate follow-up care for patients leaving the unit. Our treatment team stays in touch, providing continued support to the family and the patient alike.
