Heart Assist Devices
UTMC has relaunched their advanced congestive heart failure (CHF) program with a device program being an integral part of this endeavor. CHF is a significant health problem in the US with a total of 5 million people carrying the diagnosis and another 300,000 yearly new cases and an annual mortality rate of 500,000. The recent approval of heart assist devices for long term support of terminal patients with CHF, offers new hope for those critically ill individuals who are ineligible for heart transplantation. UTMC offers a comprehensive CHF program in conjunction with the U of M to offer our patients the latest technology without the need to leave the community. The program is anchored by a dedicated CHF team comprised of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and staff specifically dedicated to patients with CHF.
