Bariatric Surgery
Welcome to the Division of Bariatric Surgery at The University of Toledo Medical Center.
Bariatric Surgery, also known as weight loss surgery, is a surgical procedure that is performed to treat obesity. Bariatric surgery allows your digestive system to limit the amount of food you are able to eat and digest.
Limiting your food intake aids in weight loss and can also help lower your risk of medical problems that are associated with obesity, such as higher risks of hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and other illnesses. Individuals who have had unsuccessful weight loss through exercise
and diet alone, may consider bariatric surgery to help attain a better and healthier body weight.
The UT Medical Center offers four different types of Bariatric Surgery:
- Roux en Y Gastric Bypass
- Lap Band
- Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
- Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
