Prostate and Genitourinary (GU) Cancer Radiation Treatment

For many patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, radiation treatment offers an excellent treatment option.

Our radiation oncologists use intensity modulated radiation treatment (IMRT) with daily image guidance (IGRT), which allows them to precisely target the prostate and minimize the radiation dose received by adjacent normal tissues such as the bladder and rectum.

UTMC radiation oncologists are highly skilled in the use of “hypofractionated” or shorter course radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Unlike most cancer centers, which treat prostate cancer in eight to nine weeks, our physicians use a highly efficient treatment regimen that takes just five and a half weeks. This IMRT regimen, which provides a much quicker treatment plan for patients, is equally effective as the longer treatment regimen.

In addition to prostate cancer, our treatment team also has experience in using novel and evidence-based approaches for the management of bladder, renal, urethral and other genitourinary (GU) cancers.
