Because there is more to cancer treatment than healing one's physical being, the institute supports a holistic approach to caring for patients. Health care professionals have committed themselves to helping patients cope with the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social needs that are associated with cancer. Also, counselors are available to lend support to a patient's family members, who are affected by the disease in different ways than the patient.
The Cancer Center provides patients and their families with a comprehensive psychosocial support program, which includes on-site counseling as well as participation in Community Support Groups.
For patients experiencing the psychological distress of cancer, it is oftentimes inspiring to hear of others who have encountered similar problems, and their stories of how they coped during this time of conflict and stress. A few of our patients have generously agreed to share their experiences with us on the Stories of Courage section of our site. Please let us know if you have a story you would like to share about your experiences with cancer.
