Treatment Centers

The Multidisciplinary Cancer Center is guided by the recognition that cancer comprises a group of diseases that require treatment from multiple disciplines and specialists. The Cancer Institute has developed comprehensive multidisciplinary centers, using a team of experts to focus on specific areas of care including:

Breast Disease
Gynecologic Oncology
Genitourinary Oncology

Our philosophy is that patient care is facilitated when all of the specialists appropriate for a particular type of cancer are immediately available, on the initial patient visit, in a single location. This distinguishes the Cancer Center from more traditional treatment programs where patients may see one specialist on their first visit, and need to make appointments to see other specialists on subsequent occasions. Furthermore, this allows our patients to receive a consensus opinion and treatment plan from the full range of cancer specialists appropriate for their disease.

At the Cancer Institute, care coordinators guide patients through all steps of their care from the initial physical examination through their treatment program. Each patient is evaluated for possible participation in several ongoing clinical trials.

Each of the multidisciplinary centers emphasize the treatment of the patient as a whole person by assessing the need for, and providing psychosocial support. Programs for lymphedema, massage therapy in conjunction with aromatherapy, and relaxation techniques are also offered. You can learn more about how the Cancer Center supports a holistic approach to caring for patients in the Patient Support section of our Web site.
